Balancing freshness and sustainability is a challenge in produce packaging

“Packaging plays a vital role and when done right, it preserves the freshness of produce and reduces food waste,” says Patrick Boot, CFO and board member of NNZ North America. “However, the main challenge is balancing protection and freshness of the product with aesthetics and sustainability considerations,” he added. “Consumers still buy with their eyes, but also want the freshest product possible, preferably in an environmentally sustainable bag, wrap, or punnet.”
